History of the Pulaski County Community Foundation, Inc.

In 1994 several citizens of Pulaski County gathered to create our community foundation.  For two years its leaders worked closely with a similar group in adjoining Starke County.  In late 1996, however, both counties became affiliates of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation (NICF), which already consisted of Cass, Fulton and Miami counties.

In 2000 the committee of the Pulaski County Community Foundation unanimously voted to become an independent, self-standing entity.  In 2001 a local office was established in Winamac, and a part-time staff was hired.  The Board of Directors was increased, and the organization applied for its own 501c3 status, created bylaws, mission statement, and many other governance pieces.

March 31, 2002 was the official date of final separation from NICF.  The Pulaski County Community Foundation was now "on its own."  PCCF ran its first independent granting cycle, awarding over $12,000 to local projects/organizations in 2002.

In May of 2003 a full-time executive director was hired, and the Community Foundation has continued to grow ever since. By  the end of 2007, our total assets exceeded $6.6 million! Over the past year, more than $231,300 was awarded in community grants and scholarships, and we now hold 72 funds at our office.

Our first 10 years in the community have benefited countless residents and greatly improved the quality of life in Pulaski County. Through the generosity of many individuals and the help of Lilly Endowment, we will continue to make Pulaski County an even better community for all of us far into the future.
